In a statement to the media, the agency has asked the general public to inform Drishti Lifesaving on +91 9225580100 via a WhatsApp message about garbage strewn on the beach by sending a picture of the garbage followed by a WhatsApp text stating the location and additionally sending across the WhatsApp location which is accurate up to a radius of 10 metres from where the garbage was spotted.
“The agency will take action on the complaint within the next 24 hours and a feedback message from the agency’s end will be sent to the sender,” the agency said in a statement.
Currently, the agency is collecting garbage from around 34 beach stretches - 21 in North Goa and 13 in the South.
In South Goa, the beaches covered are Baina, Bogmalo, Velsao, Hollant, Arossim, Majorda, Utorda, Betalbatim, Colva, Benaulim, Varca, Zalor, Cavelossim, Mobor, Agonda, Palolem, Patnem, Rajbagh, Talpona, Galgibag and Polem, while in North the beaches covered include Querim, Arambol, Ashwem, Mandrem, Morjim, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Candolim, Sinquerim, Miramar, Vainguinim, Dona Paula, Siridao and Bambolim.
Upon a request from the state government, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd had begun handling beach cleaning on a temporary basis to support the effort of the government. The agency has an existing framework which includes infrastructure and management capability to effectively carry out the exercise along the beaches. Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd have employed 236 personnel (139 in North and 97 in South) over the past five months to clear the garbage from the beaches.
