Many areas of Nuvem went without electricity for around 10 hours following damage to an underground high-tension cable on Sunday.
Agitated residents pointed out that the three wards of Povacao, Cupem and Gorvotti were hit by the power supply since 11 in the morning. Residents claimed that repair work on the underground damaged cable started only on Sunday evening, leaving them without power supply for around 10 hours.
While power supply to the wards of Cupem and Povacao was restored at around 9 pm, work on the restoration of power for Gorvotti was still underway till 10.30 pm.
Residents questioned the ongoing road digging in the village, demanding to know whether the work carried out to lay a OFC cable had the required permissions. They further demanded to know whether the contractor who has bagged the contract to lay the OFC cable had taken the local power department officials into confidence before starting the work.
