Activists say HC order violated

After the high court ordered status quo in the case, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) had issued directions to the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao to ensure that the high court order on status quo is maintained at the project site. In turn, Margao SDM, Uday Prabhudesai wrote a letter to Colva police, with a direction to ensure that the police initiates action and no activity takes place at the project site as per the high court order.
Social activists led by Judith Almeida, Jose Rodrigues and others on Tuesday claimed that while the high court had ordered status quo at the site, authorities have turned a blind eye to the activities at the project site.
Judith told the media at a briefing that neither GCZMA, SDM or Colva police have implemented the court directive to maintain status quo. “The authorities seem to be only involved in passing the buck, but the ground reality is different,” Judith lamented.
She disclosed plans to file a contempt petition in the high court as the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye to the high
court violation.
When The Goan contacted SDM Uday Prabhudesai to shed light on the claims made by the activists that the high court order has been violated at the project site, he asserted that his office had issued directions to Colva police as well as the Salcete Mamlatdar to ensure that status quo is maintained at
the site.
“I had issued directions to the police to stop any activity at the project site. Similarly, the Mamlatdar was supposed to draft his talathi to keep an eye at the project site so that the high court order on status quo is maintained,”
Prabhudesai said.
The social activists have now demanded that the Election Commission and the government intervene and take action against the police station in-charge for subverting the law and prosecute the promoters of the hotel/real estate project.
