The Old Goa Police cracked two cases of theft and robbery by arresting the accused including a maid and three cab drivers.
In the first case, the police on Saturday arrested a maid for stealing gold ornaments belonging to a doctor’s family. The accused is identified as Preeti Malo, a 24-year-old native of West Bengal who worked as a domestic help at the complainant doctor’s residence at St Cruz.
“The complainant alleged that unknown accused person committed theft of one gold mangalsutra, three pairs of earrings, one yellow colour Sonata wrist watch and a crystal swarovski necklace, all valued at Rs 1.5 lakh, from the drawer of the wardrobe. Malo was suspected to have committed the offense and she confessed to the crime on questioning,” Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan said.
The Old Goa police also busted a local gang of robbers with the arrest of three drivers, who looted a navy officer en route to a railway station post midnight on February9.
The 47-year-old officer complained that three persons, on the pretext of dropping him at Vasco railway station took him to Old Goa-Ponda bypass road, restrained and assaulted him before fleeing away with Rs 45,000 cash from his possession. The accused also threatened him with dire consequences. The Old Goa team swung into action and a team was formed to zero in on the accused.
SP Valsan informed that investigation revealed that three men Sameer Mulla, aged 26 yrs and Irfan Bhandari, aged 30 yrs; both residents of Indiranagar - Chimbel and natives of Karnataka; and Asif Shaikh, aged 39 yrs, from Jharkhand were involved in the crime. They were traced and arrested.
