One held in assault case

Panaji Police on Friday arrested one Laiq Motiwala in connection with the alleged assault on Dadapir Ismail on Thursday.

Motiwala is one of the four accused in the offence.

According to the police, at around 8.30 pm four people namely Motiwala, Ronney D' Souza, Semuel and one Juez and others with their common intention, formed a unlawful assembly near Tambdimati St Inez armed with deadly weapons resembling choppers.

Later, one of the accused, who is a occupant of white colour car, assaulted Dadapir with a chopper causing grievous injuries to his chest, right hand and stomach, in an attempt to kill him.

The police have arrested Laiq under section 307, 143, 147, 148, 326, read with section 149 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Laiq has been remanded to three days of police custody by JMFC, Panaji.

Police Sub Inspector Kishor Ramanan is investigating the case.
