In a major accident on the western bypass, a passenger was killed and several others were injured after a Tempo Traveller rammed into the rear of a water tanker on the western bypass on Monday morning.
The accident has raised questions about the long delay in the arrival of the ambulance and the presence of the water tanker on the bypass road without signage.
Fatorda police have registered an FIR against the driver of the Karnataka-registered van, Guru P, for driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner.
Police informed that the vehicle dashed against the rear of the moving water tanker, as a result of which the passenger seated in the right-side window seat of the Tempo Traveller sustained severe head injuries. He was declared brought dead at the South Goa district hospital.
Locals who rushed to the accident site questioned why the water tanker was not displaying a board indicating that it was watering plants along the bypass. They also raised concerns over the delay of more than 30 minutes in the 108 ambulance responding to the emergency call and demanded accountability for the functioning of the ambulance service.
