Asked to comment on whether Kavalekar should step down as the Leader of Opposition, he said, "I feel our party should not have any stand on it. Opposition leader is the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. I am not a member of the Congress. And Congress MLAs should decide who should be the leader. It is their internal matter and nothing to do with our Party."
Meanwhile, commenting on Chief Minister's letter to MLAs to speak responsibly over drugs issue, he said, "As ministers we have a certain responsibility to factually support our statements with proof. Now speaking about drugs is quite glamorous and quite sensational. But sensationalism is not politics, especially not governance. So if we are in government, we will have to speak with some responsibility. We also need to see that the public disillusionment on law enforcement authorities does not continue."
Speaking further, he said, "We are trying to adopt various measures to actually break the back of the drug trade in the State. Whilst doing that we cannot ridicule our police force now and then. Although I am not trying to fully back the police on the drug issue, there have been cases of nexus.
It is also subject matter of a house committee. There are instances of nexus but to accentuate that and to give Goa a bad name, there are certain lobbies which are out of the State who are Keen on ridiculing and maligning Goa."
"We should be aware of this. and as elected representatives, we cannot be knowingly or unknowingly helping them in the process. So I think what the CM says is right," he said.
