The Opposition Congress on Friday slammed the pace of the vaccination drive in Goa, calling it a "part-time affair" and drew parallels with the gubernatorial office which is manned by a part-time Governor officiating over the State from the Raj Bhavan in Maharashtra.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat who on Friday handed over a memo to the Governor's office pushing for 'universal vaccination' said: "When we came, we saw that the Governor wasn't here. We have a part-time Governor, the vaccination (drive) is also a part-time affair."
Kamat accompanied by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar was talking to journalists outside Raj Bhavan after submitting the memorandum seeking universal vaccination.
The Governor's office is held as an additional charge by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari since last August and the Congress has already put its demand for a full-time Governor on record.
Kamat said Goa is small and the vaccination drive can be accomplished very fast.
"Goa could have been the first State in the country to complete vaccinations," Kamat said.
Only 5.3 odd lakh vaccine jabs have been administered in Goa so far and despite setting up dozens of centres across the State candidates are queuing up only by the trickle.
