Asserting that attempts are underway to sabotage organ transplant by some private hospitals, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday urged Health Minister to remain firm and strengthen the GMC to meet the requirements of kidney and organ transplants.

Asserting that attempts are underway to sabotage organ transplant by some private hospitals, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday urged Health Minister to remain firm and strengthen the GMC to meet the requirements of kidney and organ transplants.
Addressing the media, Reginaldo pointed out that he is in close touch with some doctors as well as legal experts on the issue, hinting that he may knock the doors of the Judiciary if the government does not give level playing field for the GMC in or

Saying that Goa is entitled to have a Regional State Organ Transplant centre, Reginaldo said the GMC can play a big role in organ transplant. "I appeal to the government to take steps to put the Goa Medical College hospital in order. An appropriate authority is a committee formulated under a statue for any tye of transplants of human organs both on life and cadaver. Three committees have been changed and this is the fourth committee that has been formed as the Appropriate Authority. There are five persons on the committee, but the most important person missing is Dr Tiwari, who is the Director of Nephrology as he has gone on a transfer to Banaras Hindu University", he said.
"Inspite of this post and Dr Tiwari being required in GMC in view of the mandatory MCI requirements for increased medical seats in the GMC from 100 to 150, this post of Director of Nephrology is still in lien", Reginaldo added.
While accusing bureaucracy for their hand in sabotaging organ transplant at the GMC, the Congress MLA has sought the intervention of the Health Minister to stem the rot, promising that the Congress will back the government on the issue.
