Over 70 cr spent on free medicines: Vishwajit

With the health department adopting a greater focus on better healthcare, the government has been spending more than 70 crore rupees on free medicines every year, stated Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
Rane was speaking at a mega medical camp held in Nagargao, Sattari by the Directorate of Health Services, Goa Medical College and Goa Dental College.
More than 700 villagers benefited from this camp.
“The health department is spending more than 70 crore rupees on free medicines every year. The number is expected to improve this year,” Rane said as he inaugurated the medical camp.
Speaking further, the health minister said that the motto behind the camp was to provide quality medical facilities to all people and especially the rural poor among whom awareness is low.
Besides providing medical facilities at the doorsteps of the rural poor, the camp also offers  specialised services like surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, general medicine, ophthalmology, paediatrics, dental, orthopaedics and even free eye glasses and medicines to those in need.
“Patients from this camp if referred to GMC for further treatment will be given priority,” Rane informed, adding that doctors will be giving green referral slips to those people who need further treatment.
A total of 128 patients were referred to higher centres  for further treatment.
“This camp will generate a new lease of life for the rural people. Such camps will be organised across Sattari taluka on a pilot basis and then in Sanguem, Bicholim, etc,” he said, adding, “I have requested our Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to make budgetary allocations to organise such camps.” 
Goa Medical College Dean Dr. Pradip Naik, Dean of Goa Dental College Dr. Ida Norhona, Health Officer Of CHC Valpoi Dr. Gajanan Naik, Sarpanch Of Nagargao Panchayat Parag Khadilkar, Coordinators Dr. Kedar Raikar, Dr. Abhijit Wadkar, Dr. Manoj Prabhudesai, Vinod Shinde, Prasad Khadilkar, Zilla Parishad member Premnath Hazare and panch member Laxmi Harwalkar were present at the medical camp.
