This became evident when the office of the Directorate of Panchayats dispatched an SOS to the Taluka Block Development Offficers across the state seeking details and inputs from the panchayat secretaries ahead of the delimitation exercise.
Salcete Block Development office on Thursday held a meeting with the panchayat secretaries of the village panchayat bodies with directions seeking all details on the geographical maps, addition of new house numbers during the last 5 years and the population status of the OBC, SC and ST communities.
The panchayat secretaries have been set a deadline of Monday to submit all the details so that the documents received from the respective panchayats are forwarded to the office of the panchayat Director. “We have with us the geographical maps of the previous election ready and the same will be forwarded to the BDO office, but with the new house numbers,” informed a panchayat secretary.
Panchayats Director Gurudas Pilarnekar said that the work has been initiated so that his office is not caught napping in the event the government decides to go in for the panchayat election as per the schedule.  “We want to prepare ourselves for any eventuality though the government has not taken any decision on the poll date,” he said.  TGN
