As the votes remain sealed in the ballot boxes, the stage is all set for the counting to be held on Friday, in different centres across all 12 talukas of the State to unfold the fate of the 5,038 candidates who had contested in the panchayat polls.
In all, 1,464 candidates will be declared elected as panchas in the 186 panchayats that went to the polls on Wednesday. Sixty-four candidates have already been declared elected unopposed.
The counting will begin simultaneously at 8 am and will continue till the entire exercise is completed. For the moment, the centres housing the ballot boxes are heavily guarded with police personnel keeping a strict watch at the centres.
Sources informed that the counting of each panchayat will be taken up as per the order that they appear.
Meanwhile, the counting for all 18 panchayats of Tiswadi taluka will be taken up at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim with the panchayats divided into two groups of 9 each.
In Sattari, the counting will be held at Kadamba bus stand hall, Valpoi for all 12 panchayats in the taluka.
For Bardez, there are three centres with counting for 8 panchayats slated at Boxing Hall, Peddem Sports Complex and counting for 13 panchayats slated at Badminton Hall, Peddem Sports Complex. Dayanand Bandodkar Krida Sankul, Peddem is the third centre where counting of 12 panchayats will be held.
In Pernem, Sant Sohirobanth Ambiye, Government College of Arts & Commerce, Virnoda and Deendayal Bhavan, Tuem are the two centres allotted for taking up counting of 8 and 9 panchayats respectively.
For Bicholim, Multipurpose Sports Complex of Narayan Zantye College of Commerce, Vathadev-Sarvan is the centre for counting with the 17 panchayats divided into two groups of 10 and 7 respectively.
In Salcete, there are three centres for the 33 panchayats with two centres in Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex, one at Citizen Service Centre side and the other at canteen side. The third centre is Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim. All the centres will take up counting for 11 panchayats each.
For Ponda, there are three centres all at Government ITI, Farmagudi, one at Exam Cell taking up counting of 7 panchayats, the second at New Hall taking up counting of 8 panchayats and the third at IT Cell taking up counting of 4 panchayats.
For Sanguem, the counting for the 7 panchayats will be taken up at Government Sports Complex, Khairikatem. As for Dharbandora, the counting for its 5 panchayats will be held at hall no 2 at Government office complex building.
In Canacona, the counting will be held at Conference hall of office of Canacona Mamlatdar for the 7 panchayats.
For Quepem, Government Sports Complex, Borimol is the centre where the counting for 11 panchayats will be held.
Finally, in Mormugao, the counting will be taken up at Mini Theatre, Ravindra Bhavan for seven panchayats.
