The Mandrem Panchayat on Saturday conducted an inspection of the barbed wire fencing of a sea-facing property at Junas Wada, which has allegedly obstructed access to other properties.

Claiming that a traditional footpath had also been blocked by the barbed wire fence, Mandrem Sarpanch Robert Fernandes had himself filed a written complaint with the panchayat and had sent a notice to the family in question.

In this connection, a site inspection was conducted in the presence of the sarpanch, panchayat secretary and members of the family on Saturday at 11.30 am.

Fernandes claimed that the barbed wire fence had been illegally erected and added that some other members of the family had also filed a complaint in the matter.

“A site inspection was conducted and further action will be taken. This entire area falls under the CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) category. No permanent construction can be done on this land, and as long as I am the sarpanch, I will not allow anyone to violate the CRZ regulations by undertaking illegal constructions or selling the land,” said the sarpanch.
