Fisheries Minister Vinoda Paliencar has assured to conduct an inquiry through Fisheries Secretary into the delay in issuing Radio Frequency Identity (RFID) cards to fishermen.
"This is a serious issue. RFID cards are issued to the workers on fishing boats. This entire process has to be done prior to August 1. I received this file on August 4 and after studying the matter, I realised that there are irregularities on a very large scale," he stated.
"The delay has been going on for the last two years. This is not in the interest of the fishermen. I will inquire into the irregularities which have happened. I will direct Fisheries Secretary to conduct and inquiry and submit the report by August 17", he assured the House.
The issued was raised by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao during zero hour.
Sources however informed that the minister has remarked that for any departmental purchasing or tendering, guidelines of Competition Commission of India and Central Vigilance Commission should be followed.
"Such practice of putting the file for approval at the last minute will not be encouraged", the Minister remarked.

This is in line with my assurance given on the Floor of the House on August 7 during zero hour to Churchill Alemao and Francisco Silveira.
