CANACONA
A tsunami mock exercise will be conducted at Palolem on Tuesday and authorities have appealed to people not to panic.
According to an order issued by Canacona Dy Collector and SDO Madhu Narvekar, a national tsunami mock exercise and implementation of UNESCOIOC Tsumani Ready Recognition programme (TRRP) will be conducted at Palolem on Tuesday.
Narvekar chaired preparatory meeting on Monday with different government agencies including the police, FES, Captain of Ports, Flag Officer/Naval authorities, Coastguard, Canacona Health Officer, CMC, Police along with coastal police, amongst others for final preparation and planning of the tsumani mock exercise.
It is learnt that State government authorities in collaboration with the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will conduct the national tsunami mock exercise on Tuesday.
The exercise aims to test and improve the standard operating procedures for tsunami response, including the evacuation process and the activation of early warning systems. The public have been advised not to panic during the drill.
