Panaji military staffer meets watery grave

In yet another drowning incident at the Harvalem waterfalls within a week, a 26-year-old staffer attached to the Military Hospital at Panaji drowned in the waterfalls on Saturday.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 11 am, as a group of eight staff from the military hospital at Panaji had gone to the Harvalem waterfalls.
While they were swimming, one of them, identified as the nursing assistant, Perysammy Marimuttu, a native of Tamil Nadu, drowned in the falls.
Local authorities then sought the services of naval divers. The Navy responded by deputing a six-member team. The body was located at about 5.45 pm and was pulled out from the water.
The body was later handed over to Bicholim police and a case under Section 174 CrPC has been registered. This incident comes barely a week after an Afghan youth drowned in the Harvalem waterfalls.
