Panaji police arrest Kerala man in Rs 7.54L mobile banking fraud

Panaji Police have arrested a 48-year-old Kerala resident in connection with an alleged mobile hacking and online banking fraud involving Rs 7.54 lakh.

The accused, identified as Abdul Haseeb KP, a native of Pandikkad in Malappuram, Kerala, was apprehended from Kerala, police said.

Police said the complainant, Vijay Shah, a resident of Panaji, had reported that his mobile phone was hacked on May 29. According to the complaint, the accused gained unauthorised access to the phone and carried out multiple online banking transactions without his knowledge.

“A total of Rs 7,54,638 was allegedly transferred through UPI to multiple bank accounts, following which Shah approached the Panaji Police,” the police said.

Based on his complaint, Panaji Police registered case under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the BNS 2023, and launched an investigation.

During the probe, the Panaji Police team used technical assistance and developed information through its sources to trace the alleged accused.

Police said further investigation into the digital transactions and the accounts to which the money was transferred is underway.

The operation was led by Panaji Police Station PI Vijaykumar Chodankar, PSI Mahadev Pednekar, PC Aditya Mardolkar and Shubham Bhonsle, under the supervision of SDPO Panaji Sudesh Naik and SP North Harishchandra Madkaikar.
