One person was injured when the pandal of an exhibition collapsed at Chaudi in the wee hours of Thursday morning due to heavy overnight rains, causing heavy losses to the organisers.
According to sources, the 14-day Goa Consumer Expo Exhibition was into its eighth day, but the large pandal collapsed due to heavy torrential rains, damaging many of the over 40 stalls at the exhibition.
Sources said rainwater began to seep into the pandal and some poles began to give way, leading to the collapse of the pandal at about 3.30 am on Thursday.
One stall owner suffered some injuries and was shifted to Canacona Community Health Centre, before being referred to the District Hospital at Margao. Only a few stall operators, including security personnel, were at the venue at the time of the incident, while most other stall owners were staying in hotels nearby.
