A Goan expat who visited a leading supermarket in Doha told The Goan: “I just came back from a major supermarket. There were huge queues and the shelves with essential supplies wiped out. Trolleys were full and there was a lot of panic buying since morning.”
The Doha News also reported that “customers could be seen piling their carts high with supplies of milk, water, rice and eggs at several popular grocery stores...”
“Photographs of empty chiller shelves have already been circulating on social media sites, as residents reportedly cleared out stores of chicken and other fresh and frozen meat in some shops,” the Doha News report added.
According to other reports, trucks carrying food for Qatar were queued up across the border in Saudi Arabia and unable to enter the country, while UAE’s Fujairah Port claimed all vessels flying flag of Qatar or vessels destined to Qatar not to be allowed to call at the port.
