Paper-laden truck overturns in Chorla Ghat, driver hurt

VALPOI

A goods truck carrying paper from Telangana to Goa overturned at Chorla Ghat around 4 am on Sunday after its brakes reportedly failed, leaving the driver with minor injuries and causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

The truck, bearing registration number TN 52 F 4214, was descending the ghat when the brakes allegedly failed, making it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle. In an attempt to avert a major accident, the driver tried to steer towards the roadside, but the truck overturned, scattering a large quantity of paper across the road.

The driver sustained minor injuries to his hand and was taken to the Government Social Hospital in Sanquelim, where he received first aid before being discharged. No loss of life was reported.

The truck suffered considerable damage, particularly on one side, while the scattered paper affected the roadside stretch.

Chorla Ghat has several sharp curves and steep descents, requiring motorists, particularly heavy vehicle drivers, to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

Valpoi Police visited the spot, inspected the scene and prepared a panchnama. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
