The All-India Konkani Parishad has resolved that the Goa government should persuade the governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala to provide grants and salaries for teachers at Konkani medium schools in those States, similar to how Goa supports Kannada medium primary schools and teachers in high schools.
At the concluding function of the 33rd edition of AIKP at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao seven resolutions were passed unanimously in the presence of the newly appointed president of the AIKP Fr Mousinho Ataide, former presidents of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Prashant Naik and Chetan Acharya, industrialist and chairman of Fomento Group Auduth Timblo and other dignitaries.
Among the other resolutions demand was made that the training for government servants in Konkani Language and more specifically for the smooth operation of their departmental official work should continue without any break.
The third resolution asked the government and more specifically the Education department to make it mandatory for teaching of Konkani subject for all students studying up to the level of XII in all schools operating in Goa.
A demand was also put up for setting up of a Language Commission. The resolution further said that this Commissioner should be a non-political language expert, and the said commissioner should be given cabinet rank for the smooth and effective implementation of the Official Language Act.
The Parishad also passed a resolution stating that the government should not relax the 15-year domicile requirement or the mandatory knowledge of Konkani for recruitment in government and semi-government bodies, including Goa University. Additionally, the Goa government should require all establishments and industries in the state to allocate 80% of jobs to Goans.
The sixth resolution asked the government of Goa to give the responsibility of transcription of literature from Roman and Kannada script to Devnagari and vice versa and provide requisite support including budgetary provision for this work.
The last resolution stated that AIKP along with World Konkani Centre should take initiative to streamline the work going in different states in the field of usage of technology in development of Konkani language. These resolutions were passed with thumping majority at the concluding ceremony of the two-day event.
