Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Monday said Calangute constituency has been lucky to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as he was anointed as the future CM of Goa in Calangute.

Spilling an unknown secret, Lobo said that Pramod Sawant was declared the future CM of the State by former chief minister Manohar Parrikar when he was being treated at Dukle’s Hospital in Calangute.

“Two months before he could pass away the former CM was admitted at the Dukle’s Hospital. ‘I know my time is come. I want to share with you…After my death, Pramod Sawant should become the CM of this State,’ he told us,” Lobo disclosed while speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the extension block of Candolim PHC.

He said along with him then Speaker Pramod Sawant, ex-MLA of Panaji Siddharth Kunkolienkar and then party president Vinay Tendulkar were present by the former CM’s bedside.

He further said the party then fulfilled Parrikar’s last wish to make Sawant as the CM of the State.

“So this constituency (Calangute) is very lucky for you (Sawant). The former CM’s blessing was always with you and continues to be with you even now,” Lobo said.

He said despite financial constraints the CM has managed to wade through difficult times without stopping any of the development works or welfare schemes.

“The former CM Parrikar who was from this constituency supported us. Even if there was no money he used to adjust and give money to us. This CM has also done the same thing,” the waste management minister said.

He said Rs 10 crore was earlier sanctioned for the construction of the extension building of Candolim PHC and Sawant has sanctioned another Rs 10 crore for the same project.

Lobo said the number of patients had increased manifold in the coastal belt and it was imperative the Candolim PHC required a new block.

He said the PHC required some crucial equipment like X-Ray facility and even a mini operation theatre so that patients need not be rushed to Mapusa or Panaji.
