Saturday saw Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai wooing Shastikars in particular and people of South Goa in general with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in particular saying the government will not discriminate against people down south though they did not give the desired seats in the 2017 Assembly election.
After inaugurating the district tribal office, the Chief Minister announced that the Passport Kendra will take shape in Margao in the near future.
While st
rongly rooting for decentralization to take administration the people's door steps, the Chief Minister said almost 90 per cent of the government departments can set up office in South district for the benefit of the people. "My government is giving more attention to South Goa. Though the people did not give many MLAs , we are not holding any grudge against the people. We do not follow the politics of discrimination," Parrikar said, after inaugurating district office of the Tribal department on the second floor of the old collectorate building.
He said tribal people from South Goa need no longer travel to Panaji for their requirements, saying the district office will be empowered to take care of their needs. "We have put in place so many things affecting the tribals. The government had to surmount technical difficulties to ensure the benefits reaches the people," he said.
Saying the Passport Kendra will be soon inaugurated at the Collectorate building, Parrikar said most of the major departments will have their offices in the district.
In his address, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai said the coalition government is working for the benefit of the people of Goa, adding that the government has given special attention to Salcete by setting up the tribal office in Margao. "It is now the duty of the officials to take the schemes to the intended tribal beneficiaries in Salcete and other parts of Goa", Sardesai said.
In his brief address, Minister for Tribal Welfare Govind Gawde said the government is committed to implement the various schemes for the scheduled tribes in the state.
Tribal Welfare Director Venancio Furtado said the district tribal office will be manned by a full-fledged deputy director with powers to sanction schemes. "Besides a deputy director, we have already deputed six staffers to the office, while another 4-5 employees will join the office soon", Furtado said.
MLAs Digambar Kamat, and Wilfred D'sa, Chairperson ST/SC Commission Prakash Velip, South Collector Anjali Sehrawat, Addl collectors Agnelo Fernandes and Johnson Fernandes, MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai and others were present.
