Addressing a press conference at BJP headquarters in Panaji on the occasion of completion of three years of BJP-led Central Government, Patra said, “The way Goa has been in the priority list of the central government and the way the State has been given great deal of importance as far as infrastructure development is concerned is unparalleled. Through Nitin Gadkari’s Ministry an amount of Rs 12,000 crore has been sanctioned for roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects. Additionally, Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned for airport extension project.”
Stating that two ayurvedic hospitals will come up in Goa, one in each district, he informed that centre has already sanctioned Rs 22 crore for the same.
“Nonetheless, two national institutes will be set up “ National Institute of Ayurveda and National Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy. In the first phase the government has already released Rs 500 crore for the same and in the second phase an additional amount of Rs 500 crore would be released. In total Rs 1000 crore will be spent on construction of these two projects,” he said.
The Centre has already sanctioned Rs 120 crore for upgradation of Goa Medical College, Bambolim, in addition to Rs 100 crore sanctioned exclusively for cancer treatment.
“As far as infrastructure is concerned, this government has considered a bright spot in India, just the way India is considered a bright spot globally,” Patra said.
When asked about the reduction in the number of BJP MLAs from 21 to 13 in the Assembly elections gone-by, he said, “It is because of people’s blessings that we have managed to form the government in Goa. Nobody wants to go with the party which bagged the highest number of seats in the polls, mainly because they do not have any credibility. People want to come with us because they have faith in us and our development.”

bats for Uniform Civil Code
PANAJI: Strongly batting for Uniform Civil Code (UCC), BJP’s National spokesperson Sambit Patra said that UCC is important to address the issue of gender equality.
Speaking at a BJP meeting, Patra said, “What we are striving for and what the country is discussing today, Goa already has it enforced. This is a great feat that Goa has already achieved. As far as the UCC is concerned, the BJP’s stand is absolutely clear. It is also mentioned in its manifesto that we believe in UCC because of the fact that we respect every religion and we want the best practices from every religion to be drawn so that gender equality is addressed.”
“We firmly believe that men and women both are equal in the eyes of law and should be treated equally, because of which UCC is important,” he said.
“Presently, there is questionnaire released by the Law Commission. There are 16 questions which the people of the country can answer,” he said.
