The Police Control Room section of Goa Police has appealed to all users of mobile phones, especially those purchased after January 1 this year, to be cautious while pressing the power button of the phone as it is the designated ‘panic button’ and if pressed thrice in succession, it triggers phone calls to the State Police Control Room.
As a part of the national policy for Emergency Response System, all mobile phone handsets manufactured after January 1, 2017 have an additional feature whereby the power button functions as a panic button. Pressing the power button thrice discreetly initiates a phone call to the emergency number 112 (presently diverted to 100 in Goa) and allows the police to listen in order to ascertain the threat to life of the caller or other offences and permits them to triangulate the caller’s location.
