QUEPEM
Stating that many specialist doctors have joined Goa Medical College and hospital at Bambolim, Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane has said people should trust the government’s efforts to provide best medical facilities.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 24-bedded hospital at Quepem on Friday.
“Many specialist doctors have joined GMC Bambolim and as a result, private hospitals are feeling the heat. The government is spending over Rs 7-8 lakh per day to provide free medicines to patients,” said Rane.
“Apart from that, for the first time in India, Goa will have 15 Emergency Cardiac vans with a cardiac specialist 24 hours a day to handle any cardiac emergencies, as there is very small critical window to revive the patient. One such cardiac van will be provided for Quepem hospital,” said Rane.
He also informed that motorcycle ambulances would be set up in the State to handle cases where there are traffic issues. “A motorcycle would have better access along busy traffic than a four-wheeler,” said Rane.
Rane also mentioned that an ayurvedic hospital would be constructed at Pednem at an estimated Rs 500 crores, while a cancer centre would be set up at Bambolim at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore.
“I am constantly taking stock of all medical facilities and services, while also reviewing all shortcomings with experts to find a solution.”
Although the extension of Primary Health Centre was completed four years ago, the official inauguration was delayed due to various reasons. However, a portion of the building was recently used for registration of DDSSY and Aadhaar cards.
Since July last year, a 4-bedded casualty unit was also set up with ECG facilities and doctor on duty round the clock.
Speaking on the occasion, Quepem MLA and Opposition Leader Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar said it was a moment of pride for the people of Quepem as their dream of having a hospital had come true.
The hospital will have a dentist, ayurvedic doctor and ophthalmologist on part-time basis, but Kavlekar requested the health minister to provide them on a permanent basis. He also requested for a morgue facility in the hospital in future.
