Stating that he could be one of the MLAs who may not get the party ticket for the 2022 assembly polls, Ports Minister Michael Lobo said if he was denied a seat he would then contest the election on the people’s ticket.
“The chief minister, the core committee and the central parliamentary board will take a decision (on giving a ticket or not). I cannot comment on it. Maybe, I am part of it. I can also be on the list (to be denied),” Lobo said.
The ports minister was responding to a query whether he was in consonance with the line of thought that some MLAs in the BJP camp should be denied tickets.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had recently said all sitting MLAs cannot be assured of tickets to contest the 2022 assembly polls.
Sawant had also said that the performance of the MLA and his connection with the people were predominant conditions for bagging the ticket.
According to Lobo, some people were not happy with his performance but finally, it was for the people to decide whether he was fit to contest or not.
“I cannot comment on my performance. But some say that I am not performing. In that case, my ticket will also go,” he said.
But he was quick to add: “It’s for the people of my constituency and the State to evaluate my performance.”
Lobo also said politicians were spoiled for choice as many political parties had entered Goa and were scouring for candidates.
“There are many tickets. People will give the ticket. Those who don’t get the ticket will go somewhere. Nobody will sit at home,” he opined.
He further said that if at all he was one of the unlucky ones then he would do what people wanted him to do.
“It depends on the people. It won’t be my decision. People will decide where I should contest if I am denied a ticket,” he said.
