PERNEM
The stage was set and the messages were circulated on social media, but Pernem police foiled a bullfight planned at Morjim in the wee hours on Tuesday.
According to sources, a bull from Morjim had been scheduled to lock horns with a rival from Parra for an illegal bullfight at Morjim.
A message regarding this bullfight was circulated on social media on Monday, but this message was intercepted by Pernem Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi, who directed his PSI Prafull Giri to ascertain the message on social media.
PSI Giri and a police team then began moving around the Morjim seashore area since early morning.
The presence of a police team was enough to deter the organisers from going ahead with the bullfight, but some people who were planning to witness the banned activity were seen visiting the venue.
Even though Pernem police had foiled a bullfight in Morjim, sources said a bullfight had taken place in Keri about 10 days ago.
Meanwhile, the Pernem Nagrik Samiti submitted a memorandum to PI Dalvi, seeking his intervention to stop illegal activities like drugs, parties and bullfights in the taluka. PI Dalvi assured to take action after probing each case.
