It was not all music to their ears, as locals residing along the coastal belt of Pernem were confronted with noise pollution at numerous night parties organised at Morjim, Ashvem and other beaches in Pernem taluka to usher in the New Year.
Crowds were seen at most night parties all along Pernem's coast and revelers began gathering at the venues at about 10 pm. The entry passes at many venues ranged between Rs 1000 and Rs 5000.
According to sources, parties continued into the wee hours of Friday, with some of them were organised without any permit or permission from the authorities.
Updesh Shetgaonkar, a shack owner at Ashvem-Mandrem beach, told The Goan that Christmas and New Near parties continued till the wee hours. “We can understand this, but we object to the loud noise during night parties. We have also submitted a memorandum to Pernem PI Devendra Gad in this connection,” he said.
Echoing similar views, Pernem Swabhiman Organisation president Devendra Prabhudessai said, “We do not have any objection to these parties, but we oppose noise pollution.”
Adv Prasad Shahpurkar said they had submitted a memorandum regarding the noise pollution, but the authority concerned had failed to initiate any action in the matter.
Some aggrieved locals have alleged that authorities were well aware of those organizers who conducted night parties without permission.
“Authorities give permits to organisers by imposing terms and conditions, but no one cares if these terms and conditions are violated,” remarked a resident.
When contacted, Pernem PI Devendra Gad said the police had acted on complaints and had issued show-cause notices to the violators.
Meanwhile, some eye witnesses told The Goan that a tourist was assaulted by bouncers of a restaurant at Ashvem beach, following a dispute over party tickets.
When contacted, PI Gad informed that no complaint of any assault had been registered with the Pernem police.
