A 24-year-old scooterist from Khajne-Pernem died in a road mishap when his scooter and a car collided with each other on the flyover at Green Park Junction in Guirim late Friday night.

The incident took place at about 11.30 pm as Dr Nithin Balan, a native of Kerala who works at Mapusa District Hospital, was proceeding from Porvorim to Peddem-Mapusa in his car. Shreyas Teli, the son of a police constable, was proceeding in the same direction on an EV scooter.

While reportedly overtaking on the flyover, the car collided with the two-wheeler and Teli was seriously injured in the mishap. Dr Balan rushed the injured youth to the Mapusa District Hospital in his car, but Teli died a short while later.

Teli was working at the Nexa showroom in Porvorim and met with the accident while returning home from Porvorim.

Incidentally, he had been injured in a road mishap a month ago and had returned to work after recovering from his injuries.

Upon receiving information about the accident, Saligao PSI Akshay Fatarpekar and Constable Sudesh Mapari conducted an inquest into the incident. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Saturday morning.

Police have registered a case against Dr Balan for rash and negligent driving leading to the death of a person. Saligao police are conducting further investigation into the case.
