In an unusual move, the Sanguem Inspector of Civil Supplies Jeevan M Manjrekar has suspended the Priority Household Ration Card (PHH) issued to Savita Varak, wife of Netravali Sarpanch Bundo, which they had been using for the last few years.
In a notice dated June 26 issued to Savita Varak, Manjrekar stated that a show-cause notice had been issued following a complaint that she was holding a PHH Ration Card.
“You were directed by this office to submit your explanation within 7 working days from the date or receipt of the Show Cause Notice. However, till date you have failed to submit your explanation to the said show-cause notice. This attitude shows your disrespect to this office,” stated Manjrekar.
“Further, as per the local inquiry conducted by this office, it is understood that your
husband Bunda Varak, whose name is figuring in your family ration card, is presently
holding the post of Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Neturlim, Sanguem.”
Manjrekar further stated that as per the NFSA (National Food Security Act) 2013, eligibility criteria, she was not eligible to hold a PHH Ration card as she did not come under the income limit set for holding such a card.
“In view of the above, this is to inform you that your family Ration Card has been suspended by this office and further necessary action will be initiated against you as per the law if required,” the inspector added.
Incidentally, the PHH Ration Card entitled poor people having income of less than Rs 10,000 per month to 5 kgs of foodgrains at a subsidised rate, besides one kg of coarse grains.
