The member secretary of Goa Biodiversity Board Dr Pradeep Sarmokadam stated that planting of indigenous plant species in thematic and ecologically appropriate way in designated open spaces was exemplary. He was speaking in Pilerne after planting saplings during the Van Mahotsav programme organised by Pilerne–Marra panchayat is association with Pilerne Bodiversity committee. The sarpanch of Pilerne –Marra Panchayat Sandeep Bandodkar, Dy Sarpanch Sonal Malvankar, Panch members  Amarnath Govekar, Santosh Bandodkar, Karan Govekar, Brenda Vaz, Sayaji Rane and ZP member Rupesh Naik were present on the occasion.

Dr Sarmokadam explained about the project aimed at achieving conservation through livelihood interventions in the state and mentioned that each person should take complementary actions to contribute towards his or her ecological footprints. Due to rapid urbanization and modern lifestyle, we are cutting down trees, polluting the environment and releasing more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than ever. This can have long-term, disastrous effects on our health, wellbeing, and the climate. This important festival is an attempt to tackle deforestation, climate change, carbon emissions, and promote wildlife and afforestation. By planting trees we can take a bold step towards maintaining our environment, reducing our carbon emissions, and protecting our biodiversity, said Dr Sarmokadam.

Panch member Amarnath Govekar stated that the panchayat is celebrating Van Mahotsav to create awareness  among locals of the importance of trees in the lives of human beings. Those who plant the saplings should also ensure that they grow into trees, said Govekar.

ZP member Rupesh Naik also spoke on this occasion. Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar welcomed the gathering and panch member Karan Govekar proposed vote of thanks.
