A temporary municipal worker was rescued after accidentally falling into a well near a demolished building opposite Goa Sahakar Bhandar in Vasco on Tuesday morning.
According Mormugao Councillor Girish Borkar, the woman had gone to the site to pluck flowers when she accidentally fell into the well.
"The area is actually barricaded by tin sheets from all sides after the building was demolished and there is a huge growth of vegetation in the area. However, there is a small access and the woman went inside after she saw flowers in the area.”
“She did not notice the well and fell inside. She started screaming for help and no one would have realised she was in the well, but fortunately her voice was heard by a woman in the building near the site," said Borkar.
An eyewitness, Ashwit Binagekar, said the woman then alerted Krishna Daji Salkar and requested him for help in rescuing the woman from the well.
"Salkar rushed to the site and also alerted the fire services and the police, who rescued the woman from the well. She was fine but was referred to the Chicalim Sub District Hospital for treatment, if required," said Binagekar.
Vasco Fire Officer Vinayak Naik said four firefighters took part in the operations to rescue the woman from the well.
“Before we arrived at the site, locals had lowered a rope to secure the woman. We later pulled her from the well. The police later took her to the Chicalim SDH for treatment," said Naik.
