The autopsy on the body of artist Shireen Mody’s gardener has revealed that Praful Jena had died due to suspected poisoning, even as police were tight-lipped on investigations in the case.
Injury marks were also found on the body “ one on the skull and another on his left hand “ but they were found to be superficial.
“Post-mortem is suggestive of death due to poisoning. However, the internal organs and tissues are preserved for laboratory analysis,” sources informed.
The postmortem of 68-year-old gardener, Praful Jena, was conducted on Tuesday by Dr Chetan Karekar at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Mody was killed by her gardener at her residence at Arpora on Sunday morning. The gardener who was trying to escape from the scene of offence also died later.
Meanwhile, the postmortem of 65-year-old artist conducted at GMC on Monday revealed that she died of head injuries.
On the fateful Sunday morning, the gardener wooed Mody to the outhouse within the compound and once inside struck the back of her head with an iron rod.
While Mody was shifted to the hospital, the gardener was found fallen on the road in mysterious circumstances.
An ambulance shifted him to North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa where he was pronounced brought dead.
Police had ruled out the prospect of double murder and registered a murder offence against the deceased gardener and the death of the gardener as unnatural.
The Tuesday’s postmortem report suggesting that the gardener may have died of poisoning has given a new twist to the case.
