‘Not just a seizure, but a signal’: MLA Silva hails Margao raids

MARGAO: Welcoming the Goa Police coordinated action against illegal sale of e-cigarettes after the party submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police, South earlier this month, Aam Aadmi Party Velim MLA Cruz Silva has said the memorandum had highlighted the growing concern over the unchecked sale of e-cigarettes, particularly in urban markets and near educational institutions.
“This is not just a seizure—it’s a signal,” said Cruz Silva. “The memorandum was a call to protect our youth, and Margao Police has responded with resolve. But this fight must go beyond Margao. We need coordinated raids across Goa,” he demanded.
MLA Silva emphasised the need for State-wide enforcement drives, especially in areas near schools, colleges, and tourist hubs; awareness campaigns in collaboration with churches, schools, and youth clubs and community vigilance, encouraging citizens to report illegal sales anonymously.
The MLA also called upon the Directorate of Education and Health Department to issue circulars reinforcing the ban and guiding institutions on preventive measures. “Goa must not become a soft target for silent addiction. We owe our youth a future free from nicotine traps and corporate exploitation,” he added.
