PANAJI: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) cracked down on three major drug rackets with five youths including a Goan detained from the Sunburn EDM venue for consuming drugs.
Over the last three days, ANC sleuths tested around 45 party-goers using saliva testing kits during which the five youngsters tested positive. Of them, four had consumed cannabis/ganja and one cocaine.
“They had consumed drugs outside the Sunburn festival venue," ANC SP Tikam Singh Verma clarified. "We have registered cases against them and collected blood and urine samples, which are admissible in court, for further analysis."
ANC teams also conducted raids across Goa. In Pernem, a local was arrested for alleged possession of ecstasy, ganja, and charas worth Rs 7.7 lakh while in Parra, a Nigerian national was caught with 12 grams of cocaine.
The ANC's efforts extended beyond Goa. "We recently apprehended a major supplier involved in a 13-kg ganja case from Jharkhand, with the help of local police," Verma stated. "Additionally, we collaborated with Delhi Police’s Crime Branch to arrest individuals connected to drug trafficking in Goa."
With New Year’s Eve celebrations approaching, SP Verma highlighted the ANC’s proactive measures. "Our teams will monitor parties from Canacona to Mandrem, using saliva kits and maintaining a strong presence in coastal areas. We remain committed to curbing drug consumption and trafficking in Goa."
