PANAJI:
Two persons have been arrested for the murder of a 30-year-old labourer whose body was found in a pool of blood near a temporary shed at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, on Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Jumma Dhobi, a native of Bihar and residing in Ponda, was found lying face down with injuries to his head. Police suspected he was attacked with a sharp and heavy weapon.
During the initial inquiry, police contacted contractor Jagdishkumar Ranka, a Mumbai resident, who said he had engaged three labourers from Ponda for cleaning the shed where an exhibition was being held.
The inquiry led police to suspect that two of the deceased's fellow labourers had allegedly murdered him.
The duo in custody, identified as Ajay Kumar and Ritesh Kumar, were detained for questioning and subsequently arrested. An FIR under Section 103 (murder) read with Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered.
