The stage erected at the Margao Municipal square being dismantled after it had no permission from the MMC.
MARGAO
Ahead of the Julus procession, tension rent the air near the Margao Municipal square after the police got the Margao Muslim Association to dismantle the stage erected to distribute refreshments to the participants of the procession scheduled in the evening.
Association President Kadar Shah demanded to know whether one need to take permission to distribute refreshments to the people, saying that he has been stopped from holding the program because of the tug of war to control the affairs of the Jama Masjid, Margao.
Sub-divisional Police officer, Margao DySP Santosh Desai, however, said that the police had to step in since the stage was erected at the Margao Municipal square without the NOC or permission from the Margao Municipal Council.
Kadar Shah, when questioned by the Margao Police to produce the MMC permission to erect the stage, he pointed out that an application was entered in the civic body some days back. “We wanted to distribute refreshments to the participants of the Julus procession and to hold singing competition for small children at the spot”, Kadar said.
The police, however, insisted that no one has the permission to erect the stage without due permission from the authorities. DySP, Santosh Desai informed that he has received a call from the deputy Collector, Margao to verify reports that a stage has been erected at the MMC square and take action accordingly.
Margao Municipal workers were engaged to dismantle the stage erected at the MMC square. A police team led by PI Tulsidas Naik was stationed at the spot as a precautionary measure.
