Police in damage control mode after Koan episode

PANAJI

After Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) A Koan’s attitude brought a negative impact on the department's reputation, Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has reportedly urged the government to retain only one DIGP position instead of the current two.

This indicates that the department wants to get rid of Koan, whose responsibilities have been withdrawn. The second DIG Aslam Khan is being tasked with all the duties.

Sources disclosed to The Goan said that DGP Singh has conveyed to Chief Secretary Puneet Goel the recommended changes, which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further action.

“The State does not wish to have two DIGPs in Goa. The CS has been requested to recommend Goa Police’s proposal to the MHA so that there is no replacement if Koan is transferred,” a senior officer revealed.

With Koan’s charges as Range and Crime withdrawn after his inappropriate episode at the party, DIGP Khan might be tasked with all the responsibilities and retained in Goa till another DIGP replaces her.

It is learnt that Koan has been on leave and is expected to join on August 14.
