Police register Pernem road accident case as murder

PERNEM

Pernem Police Station has made progress in a hit-and-run case that has turned into a murder investigation. The victim, 55-year-old Devidas Konadkar, was found dead in Dadachiwadi, Pernem. Police now believe Konadkar was killed on purpose by the suspects.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (SDPO) for Pernem, Jivba Dalvi, said the investigation began with finding a goods carrier vehicle, thanks to help from locals. They then arrested suspects for questioning.

Upon interrogation, it emerged that on May 12th, around 9:00 PM, the accused individuals had negligently parked their rickshaw in a hazardous position on a curved road, obstructing traffic flow. Konadkar, present at the scene, confronted the rickshaw driver and occupant, provoking an altercation. The situation escalated as the accused pursued Konadkar, who attempted to flee on his Yamaha Fascino Scooter.

Further inquiries showed that the suspects deliberately hit Konadkar’s scooter with their rickshaw at Dadachiwadi. They dragged him along the road before fleeing.

The Pernem Police swiftly apprehended the driver of the goods carrier rickshaw, 19-year-old Mohit Kumar, and his co-occupant, 20-year-old Abhishek Kumar, both natives of Uttar Pradesh. The accused have confessed to their involvement in the crime.

Konadkar’s body was examined, and then handed over to his family.

Following a post-mortem examination, Konadkar’s body was released to his relative. Further investigations are underway.
