The swiftness of Goa’s political quicksand and the changes in government it provoked last weekend has seemingly foxed the staff at the Goa Legislative Assembly Secretariat into falling prey to the ‘printer’s devil’.
Records of the proceedings on Wednesday show Goa as having two Revenue Ministers according to the Goa Legislative Assembly - the incumbent Jennifer Monserrate and her predecessor Rohan Khaunte.
To an unstarred legislative assembly question (LAQ) serial numbered at 39 and posed by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, the written reply is recorded as given by “Shri Rohan Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister of Revenue” in which the latter discloses that there are 2229 tenancy cases pending in North Goa District and 1,540 in the South.
In yet another unstarred legislative assembly question (LAQ) serial numbered at 78 and posed by Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar, the written answer is recorded as given by “Smt Jennifer Monserrate, Hon’ble Revenue Minister where she gives in two annexures the list of Alvara land holders who have applied for confirmation of title and those who have sought regularisation of encroachments under the Land Revenue Code in both the districts.
Khaunte had been the Revenue Minister from March 2017 up to last Saturday when he was unceremoniously dropped following his refusal to accede to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s request to put in his papers. Three other ministers - Vijai Sardesai, Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinoda Paliencar - were also similarly sacked.
Hours after Sawant had sacked the four ministers, he had also inducted Ms Monserrate and three others - Chandrakant Kavlekar, Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Michael Lobo - on Saturday itself.
