The Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa waging the battle for political reservations for the ST community in the Goa Legislative Assembly on Saturday welcomed the assurance given by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to lead an all-party delegation to Home Minister Amit Shah and Law and Justice Minister Arjun Meghwal to set up Delimitation Commission for reservation of seats for Scheduled tribes in Goa Assembly.While also welcoming the private member resolution passed in the Assembly moved by Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, the Mission, however, has said it will keep a strict watch on every step of the Government and will make sure that the notification in this regard is issued as early as possible prior to the declaration of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the media, Mission president John Fernandes said the Mission thanked MLA Ganesh Gaonkar for introducing the resolution for the Political Reservation of the ST community. “We are also thankful to Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and MLA Antonio Vaz for insisting on taking an all-party delegation to Home Minister and Minister for Law and Justice at Delhi."
He said the Mission appreciates the efforts of Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLAs Vijai Sardesai, Venzy Viagas, Cruz Silva, Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira, who deliberated and supported the resolution.
General Secretary Rupesh Velip said, “With the passing of unanimous resolution and assurance of CM to lead an all-party delegation to the Centre, we believe that ST of Goa will get Political Reservation prior to Lok Sabha election 2024”.
Curtorim ST leader thanks CM, MLAs
MARGAO: ST leader from Curtorim constituency Anthony Barbosa has thanked on behalf of three tribal communities (Gawadas, Kunbis and Velips) Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for assuring the members of the house that the state government will take a delegation to the Union Home Minister and the Union Law Minister after the assembly session.
Welcoming the Chief Minister’s statement that the delegation will urge the central government to expedite the process to grant political reservation to the STs of Goa, Barbosa said he hoped the issue would be resolved with topmost priority without delaying any more time as it was a long pending demand of ST communities of Goa.
Barbosa also thanked Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira, Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Benaulim MLA Venzy Veigas, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, Santa Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes, Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas and all the Ministers and MLA's for supporting the Resolution.
