PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, ex-Sanguem MLA Subhas Phaldessai and South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik were among the first to reach Sanvordem.
Speaking to reporters, Dhavalikar said the incident was unfortunate as the bridge may have collapsed due to overweight with around 100 persons standing on it.
“The footbridge was closed with barricades for the last four years, but people removed barricades and crowded on the bridge,” Dhavalikar told reporters at the site.
Among the politicians, police and government officials also at the site were Opposition Leader Babu Kavalekar, Sanvordem MLA, SP Shekar Prabhudessai, DySP Sammy Travasso, Quepem PI Pravin Gawas, Mamletdar Quepem Prashant Shirodkar and other officials from Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona.
THE MEDICAL AID
Several persons who sustained injuries in the collapse of the footbridge were rushed to the Curchorem Primary Health Centre in ambulances and private vehicles.
The injured who received medical treatment at the PHC were Haldankar Bahadur (29) of Gandhinagar, Mushaki Mohan (40) of Sanvordem, Navdeep Gaonkar (22) of Panchwadi, Ganapat Bimani (36) of Capxem, Shekhar Naik (48) of Dhadem, Murtuja Shaikh (18) of Curchorem, Sajith Shaikh (24) of Sanvordem, Manoj Raikar (40) of Molcornem and Vittal Dani (35) of Sanvordem.
Those who were shifted to Hospicio at Margao were Rajaram Gaonkar (45) of Panchawadi, Mahadev Upar (43) of Bag-Shirfod, Maturja Kelgiri (40) of Bagwada, Latif Shaikh (55) of Sanvordem and Ramesh Kumar (23) of Mapa.
