MARGAO
In a development that reflects the popular sentiments of Goans, the Seraulim gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution demanding that Ministers and MLAs intending to avail medical treatment abroad should be made to foot their expenses, making it clear that the treatment of the VIPs should not be at the cost of the tax payers.
At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Domingo Fernandes, members were unanimous in their decision that politicians, including Ministers and MLAs, should not be allowed to avail medical treatment abroad at the cost of taxpayer money.
The discussion initiated by gram sabha member Cyril Valles saw gram sabha members unanimously airing their views that Ministers and MLAs should either avail of the medical treatment either at the government-run hospitals, including the Goa Medical College, or foot their medical expenses if they prefer to take medical treatment outside the state.
The members also pointed out that the Ministers and MLAs are entitled to hefty salaries and perks, all at the taxpayers cost, demanding that the politicos should use their salaries to foot their medical expenses.
Gram sabha member Rodney Almeida informed that the members were clear that the Ministers and MLAs should use the available medical facilities in the state like any other common man.
“Members felt that since the Ministers and MLAs raise their salaries and perks at periodic intervals, they should use the income for their medical care,” he added.
The gram sabha members were also provided information on dry waste segregation and collection.
An official held a power point presentation at the gram sabha for the benefit of the villagers as part of the ongoing exercise to spread awareness on the dry waste segregation and collection.
