The election authorities on Wednesday sent the defective Ballot units and Control Unit of Electronic Voting Machines, besides VVPAT machines to Bengaluru for repairs.
If sources are to be believed, a total of around 816 items, including 332 VVPAT machines, 239 Control units and around 245 Ballot Units, which were rejected at the time of First Level Checking of EVMSs, have been sent to a company for repairs.
A huge truck was seen parked outside the Old Collectorate building near the Margao Municipal garden collect the defective VVPAts, Ballot units and the control units before heading to Bengalaur.
Officials informed that these units, both from North and South Goa, were rejected after they developed technical snag. The same are being sent to the Bengaluru based company for repairs.
Election officials, who oversaw the 11-day First Level Checking exercise, in South Goa informed that the EVMs are all being sealed at the Old Collectorate after the first level checking culminating in the mock poll. “The moment the Election Commission of India announces the scheduled for the Lok Sabha polls, the EVMs will be handed over to the Assistant Electoral Returning Officers for further process”, sources added.
