Poll code mutes parties on Pernem beaches
PERNEM: With campaigning for the elections on a high note in Pernem taluka, it has been a muted affair for the various music parties along Pernem's coast.
With the model election code of conduct in place, there has been a lull in music parties at Morjim, Ashwem-Mandrem and Harmal beaches in Mandrem constituency since January 4, with election flying squads enforcing the code.
Organisers of music parties are, however, hoping to resume the events after elections on February 4, but a growing number of locals and pressure groups are equally determined to put a halt to the late night revelries along the coast.
There are a number of complaints at Pernem Police station, with cases also pending in the court.
Music parties have also become issue for some candidates in the fray.
AAP's Mandrem candidate, Devendra Prabhudessai has been part of the 'Pernem Swabhiman Sanghatana' that has been opposing music parties. “Our party will see that these noisy parties are not organized,” he said.
Congress candidate Dayanand Sopte also took up the issue, saying, “We will not allow anything which is illegal to take place under the pretext of tourism.”
