Polls near, Salcete gets a Mamlatdar and his team of 7

MARGAO
With the election authorities bracing up for the revision of electoral rolls, beginning November 1, the government has filled up all the posts of Mamlatdar and Joint Mamlatdars in general transfers effected on Wednesday.

Given that the Mamlatdar and Joint Mamlatdars hold the position of Assistant Election Returning Officers for each of the eight Assembly constituencies in Salcete, the government has filled up the vacant posts.

Perhaps for the first time in recent months, Salcete has a Mamlatdar and seven Joint Mamlatdars in place with the posting of new officials, except Jt Mamlatdar Rosario Carvalho.

In fact, Salcete has got a new Mamlatdar, Laxmikant R Desai, who has been transferred from Quepem taluka, where he was holding the post of Mamlatdar for some time.

The seven Salcete Joint mamlatdars include Rosario Carvalho (Jt Mamlatdar-I), Pravin Gawas-II, Dhiren Banavaliker-III, Janavi Kalekar-IV, Sandeep Gawde-V, Gaurav Sagun Gaunkar-VI and Seema SS Gudekar-VII.

The filling up of the vacant posts will also help in quick disposal of the quasi-judicial cases, including Mamlatdar and Tenancy cases, besides cases under the Mamlatdar Act, and under section 133 of the CrPC.

In fact, adjournments of quasi-judicial cases have literally been the order of the day in the courts of the Mamlatdar and Joint Mamlatdars over the last few months in the absence of the officials. In fact, the Joint Mamlatdars have been holding additional charge for one or more Joint Mamlatdar, hampering the dispensation of justice.

“The posts have been filled up in view the ensuing polls. The Mamlatdar and each of the seven Jt Mamlatdars comprise of the AEROs for the eight Assembly constituencies of Salcete. But, the filling up of the vacancies will also help hearing of the quasi-judicial cases, though the Mamlatdar and the Jt. Mamlatdars will now be preoccupied with the election work”, remarked a revenue official.
