Porvorim BJP vows to work for party’s success

Porvorim BJP Mandal, president, Mahanand Asnodkar on Thursday said senior party leaders have assured that the Porvorim candidate for the forthcoming Assembly elections would be from the BJP Mandal and everyone would work for the success of the party’s choice.
He however, refused to commit whether the Mandal would back out and withdraw support to any other candidate if the senior party leaders change their minds later.
“There is a misconception that the BJP would offer the party ticket to a person outside the Mandal or the seat would be traded off to an alliance partner. This is not true. Defence Minister and former chief minister, Manohar Parrikar has assured that Porvorim candidate will be from the BJP Mandal,” Asnodkar said.
Asnodkar said this while addressing a news conference in the BJP’s office in Mapusa. BJP State vice president, Kunda Chodankar, North Goa, general secretary, Guruprasad Pawaskar, other members of Porvorim BJP Mandal and panch members were present.
Speaking further, Asnodkar said the party will decide on the candidature and the Mandal will full-heartedly back the party’s choice in Porvorim.
He said people should not fall to the canards spread by the opposition that BJP was not united and that there were too many claimants for the party ticket from Porvorim.
“The candidate will be from one of us and we will work together once the party decides on the choice,” he said.
Condemning the local MLA, he said Porvorim has lacked behind on development due to local MLA’s regressive stand on issues.
“The local MLA has criticized every initiative of the government. Whatever works like the sewerage plan and the service roads carried out in the constituency have been done by the BJP-led government. The MLA has done nothing for the constituency,” Asnodkar said.
According Pawaskar, whatever little development that has been done in Porvorim was on account of BJP-led government and the credit goes to the Defence Minister and Chief Minister.
Party spokesperson Kishore Asnodkar also spoke at the briefing.

Parvatkar is with us: BJP
MAPUSA: Porvorim, BJP Mandal president, Mahanand Asnodkar said Govind Parvatkar was busy at a private meeting while trying to clear the air on the absence of BJP leader and last term’s Porvorim candidate, Govind Parvatkar at the media briefing.
“Parvatkar was supposed to be with us today but he had to attend an urgent meeting with Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar,” Asnodkar said.
He denied allegations that Parvatkar was upset with the party leadership.
“He is not angry with us. He is very much with us,” Asnodkar added.
Asnodkar further said all the members of the Porvorim Mandal were ready for any investigation in any land grabbing case in Porvorim.
Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar had recently raised the issue of land grabbing going on in Porvorim.
