With the ongoing construction of the elevated corridor on NH-66 posing potential challenges for the upcoming monsoon season, authorities in North Goa district have been directed to step up preparedness measures to prevent disruptions and ensure public safety.
Chairing a review meeting on Wednesday, Collector and Chairman of the North District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Ankit Yadav assessed the district’s readiness for the monsoons.
Officials said specific directions were issued to highway authorities to undertake adequate precautionary measures in view of the elevated corridor construction along NH-66, which could lead to waterlogging or traffic disruptions during heavy rains.
The Collector also instructed all Deputy Collectors to convene sub-divisional level meetings to review the status of monsoon preparedness works and ensure timely execution.
Among other measures, authorities were directed to establish taluka-level control rooms for better coordination during emergencies.
Preventive steps such as desilting and clearing of drains to address waterlogging, identification and mitigation of landslide and flood-prone areas, removal of dangerous trees, and close monitoring of water levels in dams were also emphasised.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Collectors, Mamlatdars, and representatives from key departments, including the Directorate of Panchayats, Municipal Administration, Water Resources Department (WRD), Public Works Department (PWD), Electricity Department, and Fire and Emergency Services.
