PORVORIM

The water treatment at Porvorim has been shut down temporarily for around a month and a half due to stoppage of raw water from Tillari .The water reservoir at Porvorim receives raw water from Tillari and this water is treated by Porvorim water treatment plant and supplied to the residents of Porvorim constituency.

The Tillari has discontinued water supply to Porvorim and Assnora water treatment plants from November 13 to carry out its annual maintenance. Actually authorities were supposed to carry out the maintenance in the month of September but due to national games state government requested Tilari authorities to postpone their annual maintenance till November 9.

While speaking to The Goan, the Assistant Engineer of Public Works Department (water division) Dattaram Raikar mentioned that as they are not receiving  raw water supply from Tillari, PWD  has been forced to shut down the  Porvorim water treatment plant for few weeks  due to which residents of Porvorim will face some inconvenience.

As soon as raw water supply is resumed from Tillari, PWD will restart the plant immediately. As per the indications given by Tillari authorities, the water supply will be released after first week of December. The residents of Porvorim  need not worry about treated water as it will be supplied from Assnora water treatment plant. PWD will make available water from Assnonora treatment  plant, but this supply will be limited.

Hence water to the residents of Porvorim constituency will be released  on alternate days instead of daily. The water will be released to various areas of Porvorim at their existing timings only, but on alternate days. The consumers should therefore store sufficient water and use it judiciously, said Raikar.
